Torcello island is located in the northern Venetian lagoon just five minutes from Burano. It was one of the oldest and most prosperous settlements in the lagoon, until the decline resulting from the predominance of nearby Venice. Currently the island has just seventeen residents, but the priceless archaeological heritage that still preserves it, makes it a popular tourist spot.
